Frequently Asked Questions

What is pregnancy and postpartum pelvic health therapy, and how common are these concerns?
Pelvic Health therapy for Pittsburgh moms supports the body through the major changes that come with pregnancy and life after baby. It addresses pelvic floor dysfunction, diastasis recti (abdominal separation), and the aches and pains that show up while you’re growing a baby or caring for a newborn. These issues are incredibly common — most new moms experience at least one of them — and the good news is they respond really well to the right care.
What are the most common symptoms during pregnancy and postpartum recovery?
Symptoms we see all the time include lower back or pelvic girdle pain, leaking urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh, or chase a toddler, heaviness or pressure in the pelvis, abdominal separation that won’t flatten, difficulty getting back to workouts, and pain or discomfort with intimacy after delivery. If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to just live with it.
How can pelvic health therapy help during pregnancy and postpartum recovery?
Therapy strengthens and retrains your pelvic floor, rebuilds core function, and gives you practical tools to manage pressure, posture, and daily movement — whether that’s lifting your baby, pushing a stroller, or getting back to running. Care may also include hands-on manual techniques, scar tissue work after a C-section or perineal tear, guidance on body mechanics, and a personalized exercise plan to help you feel strong and confident in your body again.
Do I need to wait until after delivery to start pelvic health therapy?
Not at all. Pelvic Health therapy during pregnancy can help prepare your body for labor and delivery, ease aches along the way, and set you up for a smoother recovery. Postpartum, it helps you heal and rebuild — whether you’re six weeks or six years out from having your baby. Your therapist will meet you wherever you are in your journey and coordinate with your OB, midwife, or primary provider as needed.
